You're almost there with finding your Purple Cow, now it's time to put it to the test
Here's how to do the Post-It Note Test:
-
Google a phrase that you think a potential hire would search to find a job you’re offering (i.e. “OTR driving positions near me”, “LTL driving jobs in Muskegon, MI).
-
Look at the top 3 to 5 search results that come up
-
Write down three things from each ad that the company lists as a reason to drive with them.
-
If you have any reasons in common with any of the ads you chose, you fail the Post-It-Note Test and it's back to the drawing board to come up with something no one else can say.
Alert: Unless you followed our Voice of the Driver Guide, your drivers may have given you vanilla responses to your questions (the same answers you here on every other video).
-
The most common response you'll get from a driver is "we're like a family here."
-
They've been conditioned to give that response because it's what they see and here in advertisements all day, but it's NOT a differentiator
-
So how do you avoid this? Just ask them what “family” means to them.
-
By asking them that simple question, they'll give you more detail about the characteristics of a family, and how your fleet relates to those characteristics. You’re listening for stories to capture that will prove you treat people right.
